10 Spool Embroidery Thread Stand Review

10 Spool Embroidery Thread StandBought the wrong item. This thread stand is for the real large spools of thread, not the small (1100) threads for embroidering on my home embroidery machine. The thread stand is much larger than I anticipated. I suppose it would work but it's too big for my use. It's gray in color..I know, a bit picky but I prefer the white thread holders that are smaller and fit behind the machine. Will be returning it.

40 Large Spools Embroidery Threads for Brother Machine - 500 Meters Spools Review

40 Large Spools Embroidery Threads for Brother Machine - 500 Meters SpoolsThe thread ad was a little deceptive. They advertised as thread for Brother machines, which it isn't exactly. They never would give me a definite yes or no on the thread being made for Brother by Brother. I specifically asked them that and they said they had not had any negative responses from Brother owners. That wasn't what the ad stated. It stated thread for Brother machines. The best I could find out was, that it was made in India, but they wouldn't specifically say it was made by Brother for Brother machines. When I received it, at first I was a little disappointed, then I e-mailed them and they told me to give a few spools a try and if I wasn't completely satisfied with it, I could return it and they would refund my money.I thought that was reasonable and gave it a try and it stitched out beautifully. So I thanked them and kept the thread. The only problem was breakage, it seems a little weak, but using a large eyed embroidery needle took care of that. They told me to adjust my tensions on my machine, but I didn't need to touch the tensions by using the larger eyed embroidery needle. Overall, it's basically good thread, beautiful colors and shine to it.

Brother SA442 2-Inch-by-2-1/2-Inch Small Hoop Review

Brother SA442 2 inch-by-2-1/2 inch Small HoopBrother Embroidery Hoop 1x2 / B001UAUXSI

I purchased this for use with my Brother PE700II Embroidery Machine with USB Port - the machine comes with a large 5x7 hoop, but I found that was too big for most of my projects. Smaller pieces of cloth and clothing won't fit in the 5x7 size and while you can use the bigger hoop with small pieces (with the help of adhesive stabilizer), it seemed worthwile to invest in a smaller hoop. This hoop works perfectly with the PE700II - except for the size, it is identical to the hoop that came included with the machine. Simply unscrew the clasp to loosen the hoop, set your fabric and stabilizer face-up on top of the hoop, drop the inner hoop into place, and screw to tighten. Note, though, that the oval shape can be slightly bent or distorted, so don't try to force the hoop into place or you could warp it (though, this is good advice in general for hoops).

The 1x2 is the perfect size for tiny patterns (like shamrocks and stars) in small areas (like corners and between buttons) and on tiny cloth cuts like quilting squares. The smaller size also allows for you to save on stabilizer. Embroidering small clothing items, especially for babies and small children, is *much* easier with this smaller hoop. Even your average bathroom washcloth is going to be smaller than 5x7 inches, so unless you're *only* planning to embroidery large items like shirts and sheets, I definitely recommend investing in a set of smaller hoops.

Two items to note: First, this 1x2 is the smallest hoop attachment for the PE700II machine and is represented as such on the LCD display when viewing patterns. When the smallest hoop on the LCD display is grayed out, that indicates that the pattern is too large to use with this hoop (see the product image I've posted). If you can afford only one of the smaller hoops, I would probably recommend buying the medium 4x4 hoop (Brother SA443 Medium Embroidery Hoop 100mm x 100mm) over the 1x2 hoop, just because many patterns will fall just slightly out of the 1x2 measurements and you'll need to use the medium hoop size instead. However, if you can afford both, you'll definitely get a great deal of use out of them.

Which brings me to my second note: The prices for these hoop attachments seem to vary widely and that I was able to procure it for *much* cheaper than shown here as part of a hoop set that included one of each of the four major hoop sizes for my machine. So I would recommend researching around to find the best deal, price-wise. Having said that, even at full price this hoop will likely pay for itself in no time, considering the savings in stabilizers, adhesives, and material.

Brother SA434 4 inch-by-6 3/4 inch Large HoopFirst of all, shipment was really fast!Secondly, this embroidery hoop is great and does a whole lot more than the small or medium Brother hoop.I was able to embroider a 5-foot sign for an upcoming craft faire in just a couple of hours! It would have taken way much longer if I had used the medium hoop that came with the machine.

Brother SA445 12-Inch by 5-Inch Extra Large Hoop 12-Inch by 5-Inch Review

Brother SA445 12 inch by 5 inch Extra Large Hoop 12 inch by 5 inchBrother Embroidery Hoop 5x12 / B001TOW496

I purchased this for use with my Brother PE700II Embroidery Machine with USB Port - the machine comes with a large 5x7 hoop, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a larger hoop on hand "just in case". In general, you want to use the smallest hoop allowable for a project - while you can use bigger hoops with smaller pieces (with the help of adhesive stabilizer), the smaller hoops are easier to precisely place the material, and use less stabilizer, thereby saving you money. This hoop works perfectly with the PE700II - except for the size, it is identical to the hoop that came included with the machine. Simply unscrew the clasp to loosen the hoop, set your fabric and stabilizer face-up on top of the hoop, drop the inner hoop into place, and screw to tighten.

It's important to note, though, that even though this hoop will work with the PE-700II, the machine won't actually let you attempt patterns that exceed the 5x7 size. Instead, this hoop is for repeated patterns, so you don't have to rehoop each time and potentially lose your place. The hoop can be attached at three different spots (top, bottom, and middle) and you can move the starting location for the pattern via the machine's programming. This hoop is perfect for repeated patterns on jacket backs, pant legs, or quilt tops, but *most* of the time this hoop won't see a lot of use. Really, I wouldn't recommend investing in this hoop until you actually have a pattern that requires it - chances are, you'll be able to coast on the smaller hoop sizes for a long time.

Two items to note: First, this 5x12 isn't represented on the LCD display when viewing patterns - it's not hard to figure out, but you will need to know what you're doing. If you can afford only one extra hoop, however, I would probably recommend buying the medium 4x4 hoop (Brother SA443 Medium Embroidery Hoop 100mm x 100mm), just because many patterns will fall inside the 4x4 measurements. However, if you can afford a set, you'll definitely get a great deal of use out of them.

Which brings me to my second note: The prices for these hoop attachments seem to vary widely and that I was able to procure it for *much* cheaper than shown here as part of a hoop set that included one of each of the four major hoop sizes for my machine. So I would recommend researching around to find the best deal, price-wise.

Singer CE-100 Futura Sewing and Embroidery Machine Review

Singer CE-100 Futura Sewing and Embroidery MachineWhat makes this product so attractive is that by connecting it to a computer you can get an endless amount of embroidery designs. It is also a full feature sewing machine.
I bought this item for my wife's birthday. It does everything that is advertised. The sewing functions are straight forward, and everything worked as it should.
The embroidery isn't as staight forward. The instructions are very poor, and limited. Although I have to admit, that I figured most of it out fairly quickly. The embroidery is slow, and of course you have to change thread for every color change in your pattern. The designs came out looking good. I also downloaded some free designs from other sites, and they worked just as well.
My problem with this machine is two fold. The one we bought broke after only a few hours of use. It was a minor problem. The bobbin holder had a crack where the tension screw goes in. At first everything was fine, but within a few hours the thread started catching in the crack until it was unusable. I'm sure that this won't be a problem for most customers.
The second problem is much more severe in my opinion. No one has parts for the machine, and it's near impossible to even get a parts list. One item that doesn't come with the machine that my wife wanted was a zipper foot. The part number for that item was listed in the book, but when I went to find it, absolutely no one had it. I even wrote Singer's part's department, and they wrote back telling me to call.
It's a neat machine. As long as you get one that works, and aren't concerned about parts availability, I don't think you can find a better ebroidery machine for less money.

Brother PE-400D Combination Sewing and Embroidery Machine Review

Brother PE-400D Combination Sewing and Embroidery MachineI've had the Brother PE 400D for a bit over a year now.It is a great little machine.I have NEVER had any needle breaking issues. I'm not sure if the writer of the previos post with that issue was using the correct needle (you need to use an embroidery needle with the embroidery presser foot for embroidery, and you must usse a sewing needle, and coordinating presser foot for general sewing).
The embroidery comes out wonderful. The Winnie the Pooh embroidery patterns that are included are adorable, there are also plenty of pre-set stitches, different lettering fonts, etc.
You can also purchase additional Brother memory cards of numerous subjects: Holidays, Animals, Flowers, etc. Once you get more familiar with embroidery, you may want to purchase the Brother PED-Basic which allows you to download FREE embroidery patterns from the internet, copy them onto a memory card (included) and then place that memory card into your Brother PE-400D.There are MANY things you can do with this great little machine.
This machine is very easy to use.It is my first embroidery/sewing machine combo and I love the touch pad screen. This machine also comes with a DVD instructional video which is very helpful.

Brother SE400 Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine Review

Brother SE400 Computerized Embroidery and Sewing MachineI agree with the rave reviews for the se-350 now se-400.... for sewing, it's a dream of an upgrade from my battered but still working brother xr-40 bought from costco @ 10-ish years ago.
for embroidery it's limited as the max hoop size is not very large, and an extra purchase, but fun to play with. I give it 4 stars... it's a great intermediate sewing and beginner embroidery machine.

i purchased this machine (shipped promptly from J&R via Amazon) last month after a lot of research. what i found was.... the brother se-350 was pretty much identical to the brother project runway 7700 machine. the 7700 was recently updated to the 7800, adding 1 usb port, as was the se 350 upgraded w/ usb port. the project runway machines come w/ a roller case, the se models ship w/ vinyl case. se-400 is 100 bucks cheaper than the PR 7800. the se 350 is still shipping for smae price as se-400. i advise purchasing the se 400 even if you don't plan on using it w/ your computer currently as brother will be offering system upgrades you will need usb port for.

most software for embroidery sewing/embroidery machines is not Mac compatible so i assumed the usb port would be useless for a while.. Wrong!

connect the se 400 via included usb cable to your mac, it'll show up as an external hard drive, mine was named unknown, i do not advise changing this. then add pes files from your computer by dropping them on the sewing machine/external drive. do not add folders of designs on machine, they must be added one at a time to be recognized.
and have fun!

Brother SE350 Computerized Embroidery-and-Sewing Machine Review

Brother SE350 Computerized Embroidery-and-Sewing MachineI bought my Brother in April 2008 and have been sewing on it daily for at least 3 hours every day since then.I've never had ANY trouble with it.It's a MUST that you also buy the PED Basic to go with your machine so that you can download designs from the internet.I've downloaded over 8,000 free designs so far, and that's just a "drop in the bucket".You're limited to 4 x 4 designs (that's the only drawback). The machine is very light weight and has accompanied me on many trips. You don't have to have special needles or special bobbins for this machine. It's VERY user friendly! The patterns that come with the machine are very high quality, as are the Alphabets.I'd like to have more fonts on the machine, but they are so easily accessible on the internet that this really isn't an issue.I will say that 40 weight rayon thread seems to work best (and use a bobbin thread when embroidering). When I finally wear this machine out, I'll probably go with another Brother machine.

Singer Futura CE-250 Sewing and Embroidery Machine Review

Singer Futura CE-250 Sewing and Embroidery MachineI purchased this machine because I wanted to learn to do machine embroidery and didn't want to spend a fortune.I think it is an excellent value. It seems very solid and sewed beautifully with no adjustments straight out of the box. There are sensors in the thread path that are very sensitive and incorrectly report broken thread quite often. As soon as I got the hang of flossing the thread into the sensors this became less of a problem. There are several yahoo groups dedicated to machine embroidery and the nice peoplethere were of great assistance to me as I got started.

Folks like me who are new to machine embroidery should understand that the sewing machine must be physically attached to a computer while you are embroidering. The soft ware running the computer sends the information to the sewing machine one color at a time so don't think that you can download the design and then sew it out later. You are going to need a computer to run the embroidery feature of this machine.I'm using an old computer that was discarded at my office because it was too slow to run large office programs over a network.I took all the other software off and it runs the Future software just fine.If you are going to need to acquire a computer to run your embroidery machine you should consider that cost along with the price of the Futura.

Thread is the paint of embroidery and since it is different than regular thread you are also going to have to make an investment in thread to get started. The price of a spool can vary greatly but if you buy a bunch at one time it can be pricy so think about this to when deciding to make the plunge into machine embroidery.

The difference between the Futura 250 and the Futura 350 is the software. If you plan to create your own embroidery designs you should know that only the basic software comes with the 250 but you can purchase the full software separately.Making clip art into machine embroidery is much more difficult than I first thought and to run the Futura software the sewing machine must be connected to the computer even if you are just working on the design and not doing the actual sewing. There are other software packages that do not have this requirement. You could use them to make the art into embroidery files but you will still need to be connected to your Futura to stitch them out.

I am extremely happy with this product and would recommend it to other people like me who just want to have some fun and spice up their craft and sewing projects. If you are looking to do embroidery professionally then purchase a higher priced and faster machine.
