Grace Sturdy-Lite Machine Quilting System Review

I have this frame.I bought one that came with a Juki machine.I was frustrated putting the machine base together.It did not come with all the correct bolts.I had to go to the hardware store to get the correct ones.I recommend making cloth leaders, getting bungee clamps and a stitch regulator up front to save your sanity and time in long run.The stitch regulator for this frame and my machine did not seem to work.The roller ball bearing wheels were not big enough to prevent the regulator roller from rubbing on the machine frame so I also had to go to the hardware store and replace all 4 wheels. After all that I was able to finally quilt.

Halleluia!When my Bissell Steam Mop finally 'died' and I found out they didn't make them anymore I was devastated.The only place I found to buy them was ebay at a whopping $250!Anyway, I searched online for other models and read all their reviews.None of the reviews for other products sounded any where near the quality and hard work of my old Bissell.I saw this model (The Steamboy) and it looked similar to the Bissell, however - nobody had written a review, so I was a little skeptical.

I'm here to tell ya - this product is as good or, dare I say, even better - than the Bissell for several reasons:1.it is lighter weight (but not flimsy) so my arms don't get tired 2.the head pivots easier and it is triangular in shape so it gets into the nasty corners under my kitchen counters and behind my toilets even better 3.the pads are easier to put on than the Bissell and the draw string to tighten them on is longer and therefore easier to work with and lastly 4. it has a carry handle and doesn't fall over when standing upright as my old Bissell did.Cons are 1. you have to make sure that the tank is all the way in or it is a little drippy 2.the cord could be longer, but I can't remember the Bissell's being any longer than this one.

So, if you want to replace your Bissell or give one as a gift this is definately an affordable option.If you've never used a steam mop, you will be amazed - and disgusted - by how clean your floors get and realize how dirty they REALLY were all those years when you used the ol' mop and bucket.This is faster too and requires no chemicals to clean!

I purchased this machine 6 weeks ago.I researched for months, read loads of info about so many machines, of all types and prices.I learned of the brand Janome through a friend who uses a Bernina.She had sewed on one and really liked it.After reading more info on the Janome website, it seemed that for a very reasonable price this machine might be just fine. For a basic model it is loaded with featutes.I have a lot of experience sewing, and know that most of the time I just need a good solid machine, not full of bells and whistles that will rarely be used. Most other sources have this machine priced much higher.Out of the box the start up is quick and simple, manual very easy, very clear.I was sewing in about 20 minutes after getting it out of the box.It is quiet and powerful. Very beautiful stitches.Easy operation.I am impressed.My main reason for this purchase was to get my daughter a good machine.After buying this one I really like this Janome, and would buy again.Maybe Amazon will start to carry more models of Janome. I will check back in after I have done more projects on this, and let people know how it goes. I definately am content thus far. Singer 57817 17 Stitch Function and Electronic Speed Control Sewing Machine Review

I have had this machine for years! I paid a lot more for it than Amazon is offering. So the price is just not an issue here. The main advantage of this machine is 1) It is Singer (the name says it all); 2) It has an automatic thread tension control (an invaluable feature for novices!); 3) It has 17 stitches (even the one for sewing on buttons, embroidery, and monogram); 4) It is very easy to operate, as a very detailed and easy to comprehend user manual is included; and 5) It is light-weight, compared to those bulky Kenmore and Bernina machines, it is is just a baby!
I would definitely recommend this machine to novices (especially for such a price) it is easy and cute, too.

I am a beginner - the last time I sewed was in home economics class more than 20 years ago - yet this machine is extremely easy to use.The machine itself has good illustrations embossed on it, which direction the thread goes, that kind of important stuff.No need to pull the manual out all the time.This machine is much, much easier than I remember machine sewing being. Kenmore Drop-In Bobbin Sewing Machine 74 Stich Review

I was looking for an inexpensive mechanical machine and did a lot of research. This one had the functions I wanted, and had the best reviews I could find - very few poor reviews, actually, in all the places I could find sewing machine reviews on the internet. There aren't any here, so I thought I'd write one!

I got this machine in January, and have used it almost daily since then with no problems. The manual is great, and any snags I've run into have been easily solved - I've had to clean and oil it, since I've used a lot of linty material on it, but that's very easy to do and to be expected with lots of use!

It's much more quiet than my old Singer was. I don't have any complaints. There are features I'd like, but you have to buy a more expensive machine to get it all.

By the way, I paid about $170 for this with shipping. Search around a little for the best prices, they seem to vary widely.

Janome 8077 Computerized Sewing Machine Review

I purchased this sewing machine as a gift for my grand-children.When it arrived, I checked it out to make sure it worked well and was a good machine for them.I read the manual to learn about its' features and made all the stitches on a scrap of material.The machine is quiet, runs smoothly and makes beautiful stitches, plus it is lightweight and easy to transport.

I was so thrilled that I kept raving, to my husband, about what a great little machine it is.In fact, I liked it so much, I decided to keep it for myself and I had to order another one for my grandchildren.

This machine is way better than many machines that cost much more.I already have a Bernina (expensive) and a Singer Featherweight but I fell in love with this sewing machine. I would recommend it to anyone and, in fact, I did. I told two my friends about it and they each bought one.

Brother Sewing Machine 9000 Review

The XR9000 is very lightweight, I don't know if that makes it less robust or not- it seems pretty sturdy but I would not use it for leather. The sewing mechanism is wonderful- very quiet and soft, like cutting through butter. Foot pedal is responsive and the speed limit slider works great. There's also a button control but for whatever weird reason you can not use the start/stop button while the pedal is plugged in; I don't foresee that button getting a lot of use.
There's a reverse/reinforce button which unfortunately is a temporary switch only- not a toggle. It can be used in conjunction with the foot pedal or you just hold the button down and it will go in reverse at a slow speed.

Several extra presser feet are included, e.g. buttonhole, buttonstitch, zipper, blind hem. The one thing I am missing is a quilting guide. There's a slot for it in the foot but it has to be purchased separately. While the accessories are fine, the accessory storage is not. There's a front panel section that you have to pull out and then inside there's a plastic pouch with all the goodies. You have to keep the stuff in the pouch or they'll fall out of the machine. For $0.20 more Brother could have added a proper compartment with a hinge- instead they took a very cheap and impractical storage approach.

Lighting is provided by a bright but focussed white LED. I am somewhat spoiled by having a high wattage light bulb in the previous machine which lit up the entire working area. The XR9000 LED lights up the presser foot really well but that's about it. The "automatic needle threading" is not automatic, but still extremely useful (I keep missing the eye when trying to do it manually).

Even though I wound 3 bobbins I still can't tell whether the machine has an automatic stopping mechanism or just slows down a lot once the bobbin is full. Either way you can run the winding at full speed for a minute and it's quite noticeable once it's complete. The bobbins are full-size and top-loading. There's a somewhat tricky part about catching a hook when loading the bobbin which is not well explained in the manual. The first time I missed that which resulted in unbalanced stitches; reloading the bobbin more carefully took care of it. Another nice feature is that you don't have to pull up the lower thread before you can start to sew.

The stitch patterns are plentiful and half of them look quite nice. The other half has weird default settings where the default stitch length is too long, you can adjust that in the display but it still strikes me as odd. The monogramming feature works- it's fixed size, fixed font and does not look all that great. The XR9000 does not have any adjustable settings for presser foot height or pressure. However, the included default presser foot has some kind of spring adjustment built in which is supposed to help with thick fabric layers. I have not had a chance to try it out yet. The manual and instructional DVD are great and cover all the essentials.

EDIT- 2 months later: I have been having problems with thin fabric veering off to the side which made it impossible to do blind hems or other straight stitches with tight tolerances. For 2 months I thought this was me using it wrong until I brought it to a local store. As it turns out the machine shipped with some defects- the shank was slightly angled and the feed dog timing was off. Repair was $60 and came with a warning by the mechanic that the Brother machines are not particulaly reliable due to lack of solid metal construction. Machine loses 1 star for this and the fact that Brother does not have many authorized service centers.

My husband bought me this machine for an early Mother's Day gift. I am really new to sewing and so far am in love with my Janome!! I am a first time sewer and I wanted a solid machine below $400.I wanted something I could grow into, but something that wouldn't overwhelm me.I had gone online to research machines.I was actually considering the Brother CS6000I before I had even heard of the Janome 7330.At the time there were 97 reviews on Amazon for the Brother CS6000I and I read every one.I was concerned b/c the low rated Brother reviews and even many of the 4 and 5 star reviews complained about the machine's tension and a finicky bobbin.The last thing I wanted to deal with was a touchy machine.If you read the reviews, without looking at the stars, most of them talk about the machine's quirks.I started to wonder if the Brother was trying to be too far reaching for it's price point.I was also wondering why so many were willing to overlook this touchiness that they all mentioned.

I went to SewVacDirect.com and did an online "ask a consultant" thing.I asked the person about the Brother CS6000I and the person directed me to the Janome.I had never heard of Janome before, but the consultant said that the Janome was far more sturdy than the Brother and that it was very easy to use.Still unsure, I decided to go to a store to see the machines in person.

After seeing the Janome and the Brother in action, I came home with the Janome 7330.After seeing the two machines work, I did feel that the Janome was better made and more sturdy.I felt more confident in the Janome's ability to grow with me through the years and felt it was more of the work horse that I was looking for.Twenty minutes after opening the box I was sewing.I'd never touched a machine before and I was sewing!It was as easy to use as they had told me.No weird finicky tricks to learn; just a solid machine.

The 7330 is computerized.It has a good number of stitches, including 5 different overcast stitches, three different one-step button holes, a darning stitch, and good number of decorative stitches.It has a free arm that has been great for doing the small arm and leg holes on the children's clothing I've been making.It has a foot pedal, although you can also use it sans the pedal.It has an up/down button that "remembers" if you last made the needle stay down when you stopped stitching.It also has a reverse button and an automatic needle threader.It's very easy to wind the bobbin and you just pop open the little lid and drop it in the hole.Super easy!

The instruction manual is very easy to follow and it comes with an all purpose presser foot, a satin foot (great for sewing on buttons!), a button foot, and a zipper foot.It also comes with a seam ripper, some bobbins, a brush for cleaning, a screw driver, and some plastic rings that hold the spool of thread in place.

When I told my friends that I had purchased a Janome, all of them said it was a very good brand.I found out that is a Japanese company and Janome means "eye of the snake" as it was one of the pioneers of using a round bobbin instead of a long shuttle back in the 1920's.Janome was the first to make a computerized sewing machine in the 1970's.I'm including this information b/c if you've never heard of this brand before, it's not a fly by night.It's been around for awhile and it has a very good reputation with those who know it.I also found that Janome sponsors a DIY website, threadbanger.com, which has some really neat ways to be green by reusing, recycling, and reconstructing things.

In conclusion, go to a retailer and see for yourself.It's a solid machine!!

Brother Deluxe Electronic Sewing Machine - CS6000i Review

I honestly don't sew much. I didn't think I could sew until I got this machine. In fact, I bought myself another machine years ago that I gave to my mom, because it was so hard to use. I just thought I couldn't sew.

My son is now in scouts and they have so many patches to sew on. I decided I needed another sewing machine. Wow. I'm glad I got this one. It's so easy to use, even for a novice like me. I couldn't sew a straight line before, but now it's easy. I even made my son a sleeping bag with buttons and an attached pillowcase. I sew all my son's patches and do all the mending. It's so easy. I simply follow the instructions that came with the machine.

Threading couldn't be simpler. There's a diagram imprinted on the top of the machine for reference. The automatic needle threaded works like a charm. The bobbin winds easily and all I have to do is drop it in and pull the thread through and it's done. I remember the days when my mom, a seamstress, would have to thread her own machine. What a pain that was. Glad I don't have to do it.

There are so many different feet that it comes with and all the necessary tools. I can choose the stitches by looking on the side of the machine and punching the button to match and the screen tells me which foot I need for that stitch. Cool.

This is the best investment in a sewing machine I've ever made. So easy to use, lightweight, comes with everything I need, and a great instruction book.

Singer 7470 Confidence Electronic Sewing Machine Review

I have had this machine for about a month. I have made a quilt, 4 shirts, and 3 sets of curtains with it. I am a sewing novice. I spent some time on my mother's machine as a kid, it was unfortunate as it broke a lot, and now I'm really learning how to do it through quilting and sewing classes.

Pros:
Auto tension! I love it. It works every time.
Drop in bobbin! I will never go back.
Easy to select stitches. (however,do read the manual before doing
twin needle work!)
Lots of choices for embellishing items with embroidery.
So far, no issues and I've sewn heavy and light fabrics.

Cons:
The autothreader takes more work than doing it myself.
You will need another light source if you like to sew at night.

I don't like that to reverse stitch I have to hold the button at
the same time I guide my fabric. Couldn't they just let me press
the button, then press the button again when I'm done with
reverse? (That's not novice friendly!)

A bit heavy to carry. I'm tough, but carrying it for more than a
short walk will get to you. Get a rollerboard carrier and skip
the plastic case.

Brother PC-420 PRW Limited Edition Project Runway Sewing Machine Review

I recently upgraded to this machine from a 10 year old Kenmore I was having issues with.What a find!This machine has lots of bells and whistles, which is an added bonus, but it's also very user friendly.I've already produced a tote bag on it and look forward to working with it more in the near future.

I wanted a reliable machine that had multiple functions, so that I could expand beyond my current methods to something more elaborate.This machine has met my expectations so far.It sews smoothly through multiple layers of fabric, interfacing and lining, with ease.I haven't even had to use the foot pedal as there's a start/stop button feature!I feel like I've stepped out of the dark ages into the future. =)I'm hoping that the machine lasts, especially for the price, but for now, I'm satisfied with my investment.I would recommend it to anyone considering buying it!
