Bias Tip- 3/8 Inch Single Fold for Simplicity Bias Tape Maker Review

Bias Tip- 3/8 Inch Single Fold for Simplicity Bias Tape MakerToo many problems with this machine and the various tips.First, the instructions that come with the machine are horrible. The instructions with the machine for the 1" tip tell you to cut your strip 1-7/8" yet the Simplicity YouTube video states you cut your strip 2" and also says you have to spray starch all the bias seams so that they will feed properly.Gee, like I really want to have to starch every seam in my bias tape?

As another reviewer stated, the tips are too far away from the iron and unfold before getting to the iron. I agree! I haven't tried to hold the tip up closer to the iron, so perhaps that will work, that is assuming you have starched all the seams so they will feed properly.

I got a "deal" on a set of the extra tips, but am really disappointed.ZERO instructions came with these.Have spent way too much time cutting bias tape at "guessed" widths for the tips as they come with NO suggested widths to cut the bias tape.Doubling the size of the tip would make sense, but ONLY if you intuited that from having gone searching for the Simplicity video that says to cut your strip 2" for the 1" tip!The instructions coming WITH the machine and 1" tip say to cut your strip 1-7/8".UGH!

I also found the strips getting hung up at the end of the iron under the cover if the least little bit of a seam hung out or an edge was slightly irregular.

Next, you have 5" to 6" of bias tape that isn't ironed since that's the amount you have to first pull through before attaching the iron cover and turning on the machine - that is IF you follow the machine instructions (written or Simplcity's YouTube video).Several other video reviewers have the machine turned on before they attach the tip....a really good way to get burned in my opinion.

In all, I can't say I can find a reason to use this machine.I'm sticking to my bias barsDritz Quilting Bias Press Bars Set Of Five, and the Clover fusible bias tape makers: Clover Fusible Bias 1/4-Inch Tape Maker, 1 EA

AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutter Review

AccuQuilt GO Fabric CutterI bought myself an Accuquilt GO! cutter a couple of months ago.I had very high hopes for this product, and the short of it is, it has lived up to all those hopes.

The longer of it: I wanted to GO! for two reasons.First, I have carpal tunnel syndrome and using a rotary cutter is extremely painful for me.A few minutes of rotary cutting can result in several days of sore wrists and numb hands.Second, my cuts are never as accurate as I would like.I hoped the GO! would help in both areas.

I have not been disappointed. The crank handle on the cutter is large enough to comfortably hold on to, and easy to turn.It gets harder as you add more layers.I've put up to 8 layers through the cutter.4 layers is probably best, 6 can be a chore to crank. At 8 layers I could barely force it through. With 8 layers, there were also some small places where the die did not cut completely through the top layer of fabric.I would probably not do that many layers again. But, even after manhandling the cutter this way, my wrists never cause me any discomfort after using the GO!

The accuracy has been very good.I recently finished the quilt top for a baby quilt for a soon-to-be-nephew, and the difference between this top and one that I hand-cut is noticeable.I did not have to square up the individual patches or the finished top.Best of all, the cutting was done in less than thirty minutes and I was on to piecing. The included value die has an assortment of sizes; I have been running all of my scrap fabric through on that die.Scrap fabric I would have considered too small to save before; now with one pass through here becomes usable pieces. In that respect, it has helped me be much more efficient, and MUCH less fabric gets tossed.

The cutter folds up for storage, so it doesn't take up valuable space in my sewing area.It comes in a heavy drawstring bag, so I can fold it and slide it in the bag and know that it won't get damaged.Last time I used the cutter, my usual table was occupied with another project, so I opened the cutter up on my ironing board, ran my fabric through, and put it away.Under five minutes and I had the binding strips cut and the GO! put away again.

For me, it's a win.

Reliable 4-Inch Round Knife Cloth Cutting Machine Review

Reliable 4 inch Round Knife Cloth Cutting MachineProduct works fairly well.I would recommend this product only when you are trying to cut multiple layers of fabric or similar textiles at one time. The less you try to cut the more bunching there is.Controlling the cloth for a straight cloth when there are only a few layers causes bunching and the cut is not straight the way you would like.I purchased this to help my wife so she would have less pain when cutting fabric for online sale due to severe carpal tunnel and hand pain. For the price she hasn't been able to use it much.It rolls over the surface and it does do the cutting but there is nothing to control the fabric being cut while you control the cutting machine.I think it should be emphasized more that this is a product more for cutting thick cloth projects. For thinner projects you can more easily control the fabric with a handheld rotary cutter and get a more accurate cut.
